Mat Provider & Patient Advocate


Summary of Position & Responsibilities:

The MAT Provider & Patient Advocate is a team member who is responsible for providing
services when the primary MAT Provider & Patient Advocate of Empower Treatment is
unable to provide services. This position entails the full responsibilities of the MAT
Provider & Patient Advocate, including: MAT services, prescriptive oversight, medication
management and consultation, educating patients about psychiatric drugs to improve
adherence, recognizing mental illness through observation and screening, providing
resources and referrals for patients who may need them, evaluating medication lists for drugs that may alter patients’ mental status, and providing evidence-based and integrated
basic healthcare services.

Responsibilities of Position

● Prescribes Medication-Assisted Treatment options like buprenorphine and vivitrol and
provides intensive monitoring to de-incentivize and mitigate medication diversion.

● Educates or trains clients in groups or individually on the principles of harm reduction,
use of Medicine Assisted Treatment (MAT) and overdose response interventions like
narcan, medications prescribed, resources available to them, etc.

● Works with clients/patients to identify the factors most important to his/her own
recovery and encourages participation in their treatment.

● Collaborates and coordinates with the assigned mental health professional, the
treatment team and the client/patient in providing correct information for clients with
questions or concerns related to the medications they are taking and participation in
their treatment planning.

● Performs care coordination duties as required.

● Understands and maintains HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2 confidentiality standards.

● Exhibits professional and caring manner with clients, patients and families.

● The delivery of quality services and positive interaction with all our clients, internal and
external, is critical to the completion of all the tasks within this job description, and thus
the employee is responsible for establishing and maintaining interpersonal
relationships with patients, visitors and employees in a courteous, respectful and
professional manner. Guidelines include all policies and procedures and the guidelines
and code of ethics of the appropriate professional association.

● Performs and/or coordinates other special assignments and tasks, as required by the
Clinical Director.

Minimum Qualifications

- Must have a relevant degree from an accredited institution.
- Must have a license to practice approved by the Ohio Nursing Board at a level of
Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP).
- Must satisfy all DEA and OMHAS requirements.

Special Requirements

- Excellent communication skills. Ability to operate telephones, fax and copier. Computer
skills required to use agency IT systems effectively including but not limited to the agency
clinical record and Google Drive, P2, and Slack Enterprise Grid.
- Must be able to work under required deadlines and schedules, while being flexible to
special requests and projects.
- Hearing and visual acuity necessary; corrective devices are acceptable. Must be able to
work under required deadline schedules, while being flexible to special requests and
projects.

Work Environment and Potential Hazards
Risk of exposure to communicable disease. May become involved in crisis management.
